Giang Cafe
Maybe in this world, you will find many tastes of coffee, even bland and delicious ones. BUT how about egg coffee? Have you thought of the mixture of egg and coffee? This is exactly an awesome thing ever that maybe you have not known that.
When I was younger, my brother made a cup of egg cream for me. It was tastily rich, sweetened and smooth. I have never forgot that taste because it reminded of my childhood. But since that winter day, I and my friend – Khue, had a big plan: to explore Hanoi’s food in our way. In the chilly atmosphere, we were dying for hunger and dash for a booth to eat. Suddenly, Cafe Giang flashed into my mind. Living in Hanoi for 3 years, I have never been there. So, to be sure this time we would.
There is a narrow and small alley that we have to go through prior to entering the cafe. It will make it look like antique and treasured. Foreigners want something rustic and ancient like that, like Hanoi’s appearance. That is a thing “Hanoian” want to maintain. As usual, people want to go upstairs to enjoy their drinks. Actually I do not know why people prefer to have a seat upstairs. There is even no outside view! Giang Cafe is located on Nguyen Huu Huan Street in the Old Quarter.
This spot is really popular for any visitors traveling to Hanoi, it is so well worth. The menu includes many types of drink from fruit juice, egg coffee with very affordable price. The most expensive one – egg mixed beer costs only 45,000 VND (less than $2). So cheap!
I ordered for myself a cup of egg coffee with ice. It tastes so good and sweet. My friend comments ” it’s too sugary”. I love something sweet so it doesn’t matter for me. I enjoyed the taste of it with satisfied sense. I even forgot the frozen air outside. Have a chat with my friend and share a sweet moment. It was really special !
Hanoi is reflected through coffee’s len. When travelling to Hanoi, you will see many cafe in the street, it is so popular , in other words, it is a kind of street drink. Hanoi is old because of its age (over 1000 years old) or its appearance. I do not know. But like coffee, I feel Hanoi taste like coffee. Quite, tasteful and old.
My story about my brother making a cup of egg cream is so inspiring. WHY? Because at Giang Cafe, I found that taste. Coffee there is blended with egg yolk so it is rather eggy. I used to ask myself: before my brother made this, so if he knew to trade this drink, maybe now we are wealthy. =)))
The coffee recipe is quite simple (as my thought), involving: chicken egg yolk, sweetened and condensed milk, Vietnamese coffee powder, cheese and butter, other ingredients like beer, apricot, and so on. It is mixed well together, ultimately, you will know your achievement in your cup of egg coffee.

The egg flavour is so fat and the coffee flavor are really both fragrant and bold. Until you pass by there once, you can feel how egg coffee is, because it is so difficult to imagine it.
